Do Business

During the early 1980's Lander's economy was devastated by the closing of the Atlantic City Iron Ore Mine.  25% of Lander's populaton moved out.  The actual result of the early 80's catastrophie was the rebuilding of a much more sustainable and diverse economic foundation.

Since the early 80's we have seen unprecidented growth in the medical field.  Federal and State Government agencies have expanded.  Outdoor education and post-secondary education have become major employers in Lander.  The tourism industy has grown at about 10% a year for the last for the last 15 years.

The future looks bright moving forward over the next 15 years.  Renewed prospects in uranium, development in wind energy, continued projected growth in tourism, and the establishment and projected growth of the Wyoming Catholic College are all reasons for optomism.

Lander's economic growth and sustainability has not been by accident.  The Lander Area Chamber of Commerce, LEADER Corporation, the Wind River Development Fund, the Wyoming Small Business Development Center, Wyoming Workforce Services, Vocational Rehabilitation and others have worked tirelessly to significantly enhance economic development in Lander over the last 30 years.  These same groups will continue to work help local business men and women and aspiring entrepreneurs create and sustain successful businesses.
